Jon and Molly

Our Story

Nail City Record started with a single crate of records in 2017.

That crate grew into a room full, then a 600 sq ft storefront in Elm Grove. Less than a year later, we moved to our current space in Downtown Wheeling, and the shop has been growing ever since.

We are Jon and Molly, and we run Nail City Record as a true mom-and-pop shop. After earning a business degree from West Liberty University, Jon spent time living in Colorado, where his love for records and record stores really took off. When he moved back to West Virginia, we decided to build a record store together, fueled by our shared love of music, and a belief that Wheeling deserved a great one.

We started small, with a few crates of used records and a handful of new releases, but today, our store is a full-blown hub for music lovers. We now carry:

  • New & used vinyl records, CDs & cassettes
  • Turntables & speakers
  • Posters, T-shirts & DVDs
  • Music books & accessories

We are always expanding, curating, and listening to what our customers love.

Nail City Record isn’t just a place to shop, it’s a place to gather, connect, and share the love of music. We host:

  • Live shows
  • Album release parties
  • Listening events
  • Record Store Day celebrations

We also started our own in-house label, dedicated to helping local and regional artists release their music on physical formats. Our latest release Ananga Martin - Santa Ana came out in May of 2024.

Proud Members of AIMS

In 2024, we joined the Alliance of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), a nationwide coalition of independent record stores dedicated to supporting music and the artists who make it. We’re proud to be part of a group that shares our values: putting music and artistic integrity first, beyond trends or hype.

AIMS includes a wide range of locally owned stores across the country, each with its own unique identity, but united in the mission of offering deep, meaningful selections and helping artists thrive. We’re honored to stand alongside these great shops and to keep building something special, together.
